A Flavor House Atlantic
Hey what's up everyone...just decided to drop a quick post on here cuz i hadn't done it quite yet today.
So I realized just how much of a crazy music freak I really am today. I was working out at Best Buy when a customer came in and just wanted some cartridges for his printer, when i just HAD to comment on his Iron & Wine CD (see FIgure 113004.a) that was resting in his hand. Being the crazy person I am, and knowing like every cd that is ever released on the iTunes Music Store, I was able to know who this completely obscure artist is. He was like "oh my god you actually know about this guy???" Of course I did, you know, I'm always searching the net for new music. Ok, well, I can't say I'm a huge fan of this guy, his music is a little quiet and just a little too docile for me, but the customer had mentioned that it was primarily just background music while he was working, which is completely understandable. Me, I've got music going all the time, and when I bought my iPod this was even more true, now that I can actually listen to say, Bruce Springsteen's greatest hits while I'm traversing the 100 feet that is between my Composition and Sociology classes. And let me just tell you, that is an awesome 100 feet now with my iPod lol...

Well anyway, finishing up this story with this guy...seeing how much of an avid music lover he was I was just curious if he'd ever seen an iPod before, and he'd mentioned that he'd seen them on TV and in magazines all the time, but he'd never seen one in person, so naturally, I just had to whip it out of my pocket and wow him with it, and let me tell you, he was just amazed by this little thing. Pretty much he was really amazed at just how much music I was carrying with me at that time, which just so happened to be my entire music library lol. He wanted to see what the sound quality of the AAC (Advanced Audio Codec) that Apple uses with it's iTunes program, so I let him have a listen, and boy was he amazed. He's never been a fan of the sounds of the MP3s or WMAs but he was just blown away by a 128kbps AAC file, further assuring me that my beloved Apple strikes again. But the funniest thing that occurred with this customer was when he said "you know, back in the 70s when you would be listening to Deep Purple [long pause] and you're stoned (mind you, this guy is in his 40s-50s) you could actually feel the drums beating, and they're just going all over the place." That comment just had me on the floor laughing, I mean wow, you gotta love customers that come in and tell you all about how they got all toked up in the 70s.
Funny story from last night:
Gordon (my new cat) just so happened to be sitting in the bathroom (see Figure 113004.b) after I started drawing water for my bath. (I have to soak in the bath 2 times daily cuz of my surgery I had last week). I figured he was just curious as to why the water was running out of the faucet, so I left him in there to play around in the water for a while. Needless to say, he got plenty wet...but he didn't seem to mind, it was really funny...

Today I re-discovered Coldplay (see Figures 113004c and d). Ok, so this is just my term for when I don't listen to an artist for a long time and then all of the sudden, they're like my favorite band ever. "The Scientist" has got to be one of my favorite songs, EVER. I would love to see these guys in concert. Last year, my friend Will went and saw them and said it was a really sweet show, so I'm hoping to do that very soon, but apparently they're working on their new studio efforts...

So my friend Shannon just called to inform me that she just landed a job with a big firm doing marketing and research for the company making $55,000 a year and jumping between Manhattan, London and LA with a fourth location to be determined. Jesus...I'm barely getting by trying to figure out what I want to do for lunch tomorrow. I really think that I'm starting to realize that holy shit, I have to grow up. I can only wish that working for Apple or in some sort of music field could be possible. I would give anything to be touring with a band right now, and just seeing the sights, playing night after night, living out of a suitcase and touring the country. I've decided that touring is really where my life needs to take me, somehow. It's a culmination of my absolute favorite things: playing music, making music, meeting new people, listening to new artists that I play with, seeing the country, taking pictures and just not knowing what tomorrow will bring. I'm destined for much bigger things, it's like the BIg & Rich (see Figure 113004e) song, whose lyrics are "It's hard to get around in a 6 foot town when you're ten feet tall, everybody's so small." It's really how I feel, I mean, i've got such huge dreams, there's no way this is my destiny, there's no way I'm here to settle down, have one place to live, have one job, one dead end job. I mean seriously, I know I'm meant for so much more than this. I do know this much, Angie, my girlfriend, is totally supportive with whatever I do, when it comes to what I love, so for that she's seriously amazing. I wish it were so easy as just snapping my fingers and I'd be out of here...

When you're away from the one you love for a long period of time, you realize just how much more you love this person. And when I say that, it is a complete understatement. Last night when Angie came up, it's like all the weight of the world that had burdened my shoulders is no longer there. She makes me feel so good when she's around, like nothing could ever go wrong and that everything is just perfect. Not to mention, she can sit there and laugh when I laugh along with Aqua Teen Hunger Force episodes.
I feel like doing a little cleaning in my room now, so have fun kids, and I hope to have you back soon...

first of all.. are you a fan of coheed and cambria (hence the entry title?)
Iron and Wine are great.. I was surprised to see them on the Garden State soundtrack doing Such Great Heights.. I still like the postal service version better :-)
Props to Gordon for withstanding water.. I've (surprisingly) got a cat who loves the water as well!
Coldplay is insanely awesome.. I don't think I ever gave them enough credit. Even though The Scientist isn't that hard to transcribe and play on the piano, I just haven't learned it yet. I should really take some time to sit down and learn it.
