type='text'>Against All Odds

hey everyone, haven't posted in a few days, just needed those off. this weekend was pretty fun...angie came down on friday and left sunday morning. during that time, we pretty much just hung out and watched a few movies. really, anymore it's becoming more and more apparent who my real friends are. the ones that call you on a pretty average basis and wonder what's going on, or maybe wanting to hang out. the others i think anymore are just not wanting me to be around, and it became further apparent the other night with a certain phone call which i won't go into. these kinda things really hurt my feelings, it's almost like i don't exist anymore you know? angie's about the only one that can save me from my boredom on average. these kind of things are really disconnecting me from home. every day i get more of the urge to just move on, get out of this place and somehow, survive elsewhere. my friends wouldn't miss me, my family becomes increasingly irritated by certain habits of mine, and i just think in general it's not worth it anymore. the friends that i really feel care about me aren't here, aren't around, and that really sucks. every day i just wonder what it would be like if i was unlucky and didn't have angie. it just kills me to think about it, cuz sometimes she's the only one that ever understands me, the only one that can figure out what my problems are and how to fix them.

ok, and now for a different subject: why can't you get a job where all you have to do is just know a shitload of stuff. i work at best buy, and as most of you know i'm a gadget whore. i know about probably 90% of the merchandise that best buy sells and what's better and what's worse. it really seems to impress the customers when i can stay with them the whole sale and be knowledgeable about everything in the store. it's not just that store though, i mean, it draws all the way back to my music as well, and it makes me wonder why i can't do this kinda thing permanently. would i be a good reporter for a magazine where i comment on what gadget i think is cool each month? or maybe i can just do a news commentary on the latest and greatest musical artist. well kids, seems to be that the reality is that this isn't possible, and that i'll never really fit well in a job (well, minus the whole music biz). on a side note, i think it'd be really sweet to work for apple...(course most of you probably guessed this).

i'm hoping that i can throw some of my original music up on this blog for you guys to download, that is, if anyone at all reads this blog anyways.

which brings me to my next point. you know, i really don't care if anyone reads this blog, it really doesn't matter to me if i have a huge underground audience out there that loves to read about the trials and tribulations of matt galligan's life. well, the truth is, i do this for me, i do it so that i can vent, so that i can get my thoughts and ideas out there. keeping a private journal is just stupid in my opinion, why shouldn't the rest of the world know my thoughts?

rediscovered artist/album of the day: Jem * Finally Woken
Until the End of the World

Today I realized that I just hadn't listened to enough U2 lately. It seems as though I'd pick only certain songs from certain cds and listen to them such as "Where the Streets Have No Name" and a few others from Joshua Tree, the All that You Can't Leave Behind cd and now How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. But today randomly I just said I was gonna listen to a random U2 cd all the way and once again, they have amazed me. Achtung Baby (Figure 120204.a) is a really really sweet cd, so from now until i'm done, i'm listening to one cd a day, and that cd will always be a U2 cd, until I'm done with the entire collection. Pretty soon here, i'm getting the Complete U2 on iTunes. For those of you who don't know what the complete U2 is, it's the digital box set that contains EVERY song that U2 has ever recorded. And when I say every, I really do mean EVERY song that they've ever recorded, even some like random B-Sides and unreleased rare tracks. Which I think is super cool...

Figure 120204.a
(U2 * Achtung Baby)

Click on the album above to find in iTunes...

Random thought for the day: I like the smell of bleach and chlorine. Finally last night, they released all the Bush cds onto iTunes and I bought "The Chemicals Between Us," "Mouth," and "Swallowed." Angie has the Sixteen Stone cd so I don't need that quite yet, didn't need to buy it online, she's just gonna let me put it on my computer...saweet...

Figure 120104.a (Bush * Sixteen Stone)

Figure 120104.b (Bush * Razorblade Suitcase)

Figure 120104.c (Bush * Deconstructed)

Figure 120104.d (Bush * The Science of Things)

I did buy some more songs besides just Bush last night. I've always been enthralled by techno or electronica music. To me, it's like a modern day classical genre. You don't really have to have words for it to be cool, and you pretty much have to be a musical or technical genius to make it sound good (i said sound good, not actually make it). I bought some tracks from DJ Tiesto (Figure 120104.f at bottom) last night, and i've always been impressed with his work, he did a re-mix of the Super Metroid soundtrack quite some time ago, but that was kinda underground, and more recently he did a few tracks for the Olympic Games, kind of like an alternate soundtrack. The stuff is extremely impressive! His "cover" of "Adagio for Strings" is really pretty sweet. I think some people think it's weird that i can just listen to techno music whenever I want, but like i said earlier, I just see it as another form of classical music, i mean, people just sit and listen to classical right? Yeah ok...

I just realized how much of a freak some people in this cafeteria (I'm at my school) have to think I am sometimes. I mean, Monday I showed up and played my Nintendo DS and listened to my iPod, but today tops it all...I have my Powerbook open, Nokia 3600 Mobile Phone dialing the internet so I can make this post and all while my iPod is going. Why am I listening to my iPod while my Powerbook is right here you ask? Well friends, that's because that way I have one less window open on my computer...yeah, i know i'm a super dork.

I'm really hungry right now and contemplating getting food, but I'm not quite sure if I really should. Our cafeteria is sometimes a bit ghetto...Like one day they'll be serving baked potatoes, then the next potato salad, then the next potatoes au gratin, then the next mashed. I mean seriously, are we recycling food here, cuz that's really gross. The prices are also completely outrageous too...like to get an actual lunch meal it costs close to $6 for slightly mediocre food. I could drive about 2 miles and pick up some Taco Bell and get some seriously gourmet mexican for $4 off the new Taco Bell dollar menu (sorry, can't remember the actual name). This would obviously include the new Carmel Apple Empanada (Figure 120104.e), which is quite possibly the best thing that's ever hit my taste buds. First off, you have a funnel cake batter shell, which tastes slightly similar to the Cinnamon Twist things they have there, yet with more of a subtle hint of the cinnamon. Second you have the baked apples that are in the center, now those are cooked to perfection. And finally, you have the warm and gooey carmel that's melted on the inside, surrounding the Apples, making this quite possibly the best dessert known to man.

Figure 120104.e (Carmel Apple Empanada)

Well I'm heading out, looks like some of my friends are making it down to the cafeteria...

PS. if you just so happen to be wearing an iPod, remember that noone else hears the music, except you, cuz it's in your head, which basically means DON'T SING ALOUD, you'll be seriously stared at. It's kinda like those old iPod commercials where you see Chris Rock singing loudly, and he doesn't realize that you can't hear the music, if you haven't seen it, it's really funny. I like the new iPod commercials, but some of them just don't come close to the humor of the old Apple Computer commercials. Example in question: Will Farrell eating a parfait while explaining that Apple Computers are much better than parfaits because with the computer you can listen to music, and email and stuff, while with a parfait alls you can do is eat it and pool it out, and yes my friends, he does actually say "poop it out." I was working out at Best Buy when a customer came in and just wanted some cartridges for his printer, when i just HAD to comment on his Iron & Wine CD (see FIgure 113004.a) that was resting in his hand. Being the crazy person I am, and knowing like every cd that is ever released on the iTunes Music Store, I was able to know who this completely obscure artist is. He was like "oh my god you actually know about this guy???" Of course I did, you know, I'm always searching the net for new music. Ok, well, I can't say I'm a huge fan of this guy, his music is a little quiet and just a little too docile for me, but the customer had mentioned that it was primarily just background music while he was working, which is completely understandable. Me, I've got music going all the time, and when I bought my iPod this was even more true, now that I can actually listen to say, Bruce Springsteen's greatest hits while I'm traversing the 100 feet that is between my Composition and Sociology classes. And let me just tell you, that is an awesome 100 feet now with my iPod lol...

Figure 113004.a (Iron and Wine's CD, For Endless Numbered Days)

Well anyway, finishing up this story with this guy...seeing how much of an avid music lover he was I was just curious if he'd ever seen an iPod before, and he'd mentioned that he'd seen them on TV and in magazines all the time, but he'd never seen one in person, so naturally, I just had to whip it out of my pocket and wow him with it, and let me tell you, he was just amazed by this little thing. Pretty much he was really amazed at just how much music I was carrying with me at that time, which just so happened to be my entire music library lol. He wanted to see what the sound quality of the AAC (Advanced Audio Codec) that Apple uses with it's iTunes program, so I let him have a listen, and boy was he amazed. He's never been a fan of the sounds of the MP3s or WMAs but he was just blown away by a 128kbps AAC file, further assuring me that my beloved Apple strikes again. But the funniest thing that occurred with this customer was when he said "you know, back in the 70s when you would be listening to Deep Purple [long pause] and you're stoned (mind you, this guy is in his 40s-50s) you could actually feel the drums beating, and they're just going all over the place." That comment just had me on the floor laughing, I mean wow, you gotta love customers that come in and tell you all about how they got all toked up in the 70s.

Funny story from last night:

Gordon (my new cat) just so happened to be sitting in the bathroom (see Figure 113004.b) after I started drawing water for my bath. (I have to soak in the bath 2 times daily cuz of my surgery I had last week). I figured he was just curious as to why the water was running out of the faucet, so I left him in there to play around in the water for a while. Needless to say, he got plenty wet...but he didn't seem to mind, it was really funny...

Figure 113004.b (Gordon on the john)

Today I re-discovered Coldplay (see Figures 113004c and d). Ok, so this is just my term for when I don't listen to an artist for a long time and then all of the sudden, they're like my favorite band ever. "The Scientist" has got to be one of my favorite songs, EVER. I would love to see these guys in concert. Last year, my friend Will went and saw them and said it was a really sweet show, so I'm hoping to do that very soon, but apparently they're working on their new studio efforts...

Figure 113004.c (Coldplay's CD, A Rush of Blood to the Head)

Figure 113004.d (Coldplay's CD, Parachutes)

So my friend Shannon just called to inform me that she just landed a job with a big firm doing marketing and research for the company making $55,000 a year and jumping between Manhattan, London and LA with a fourth location to be determined. Jesus...I'm barely getting by trying to figure out what I want to do for lunch tomorrow. I really think that I'm starting to realize that holy shit, I have to grow up. I can only wish that working for Apple or in some sort of music field could be possible. I would give anything to be touring with a band right now, and just seeing the sights, playing night after night, living out of a suitcase and touring the country. I've decided that touring is really where my life needs to take me, somehow. It's a culmination of my absolute favorite things: playing music, making music, meeting new people, listening to new artists that I play with, seeing the country, taking pictures and just not knowing what tomorrow will bring. I'm destined for much bigger things, it's like the BIg & Rich (see Figure 113004e) song, whose lyrics are "It's hard to get around in a 6 foot town when you're ten feet tall, everybody's so small." It's really how I feel, I mean, i've got such huge dreams, there's no way this is my destiny, there's no way I'm here to settle down, have one place to live, have one job, one dead end job. I mean seriously, I know I'm meant for so much more than this. I do know this much, Angie, my girlfriend, is totally supportive with whatever I do, when it comes to what I love, so for that she's seriously amazing. I wish it were so easy as just snapping my fingers and I'd be out of here...

Figure 113004.e (Big & Rich's CD, Horse of a Different Color)

When you're away from the one you love for a long period of time, you realize just how much more you love this person. And when I say that, it is a complete understatement. Last night when Angie came up, it's like all the weight of the world that had burdened my shoulders is no longer there. She makes me feel so good when she's around, like nothing could ever go wrong and that everything is just perfect. Not to mention, she can sit there and laugh when I laugh along with Aqua Teen Hunger Force episodes.

I feel like doing a little cleaning in my room now, so have fun kids, and I hope to have you back soon...

Too Much

Yeah so i am sitting here at school thinking to myself that vicodin really sucks...It makes me all nauseous (i think that's how you spell it...) and on top of that, it makes me really weak! i got an older iMac DV+ from a church that i did some computer work for, and then later on in the month picked up a 15" G4 Powerbook, which I absolutly love, here are the specs:

15" Powerbook
G4 1.5GHz
1GB Ram
Radeon 9700 128MB
80GB 5400 RPM HD

i seriously take this thing everywhere, it hardly ever leaves my side, moving to mac is one of the best things i've ever done...

i have a girlfriend! woo hoo! after months and months of waiting and soul searching, i've finally met my match. her name is angie, she's from freeport, illinoi but she goes to school at ilinois state university in bloomington, so that's how we see each other all the time. i mean, it's crazy how much we hang out, we see each other at least 2-3 times a week, and it is just amazing. she's the coolest girl i've ever met, has the ability to cheer me up within 3 seconds lol and she understands everything about me. my odd sense of humor, my love for music, and my insatiable appetite for technology. she supports me in everything that i do and for that i absolutly love her. she's a theatre major and also works on like sound design for plays, which is totally awesome, i went and saw one of her plays that she did sound for and i was incredibly proud of her, she did an awesome job! we've sure got a lot in common, and that's one thing that's really cool, i hope to be with her for a long long time! here's a pic of
her while we were sitting in a cab on our way to a really sweet clothing shop in chicago ~

on the job front i'm now working at best buy which i love! instead of returning to the media department where i worked a few years ago, i instead went to the computer department which is definetly where i fit a little bit better. it's nice to be able to connect to customers and help them with any sort of computer purchases. most everybody that i help seems to think i know what i'm talking about, so i have my return customers who only buy from me, which is really cool to have. it's like having loyal customers at a restaraunt who will only sit down at your booth. i've had some people ask to give me tips since i don't work off comission, which obviously i can't take due to company policy, but it's definetly the thought that counts!

so the band is going fairly well. it really sucks cuz we can't practice a ton, i mean, i have a job that is at night, so does jason and tony, oh yeah, and chad l has a really stressful job that he does during the day, and sometimes leads into the night, which renders practice with just us 4 almost impossible sometimes. chad e is off at school practicing up on his music theory and piano skills and just having fun with phi mu alpha in general. we've written quite a few new songs, which seem to be going well, and despite our fighting, despite our bickering, we always seem to make good music.

as for technology, i got my powerbook this summer, and i've also purchased a 40GB iPod photo a few weeks ago, which has not left my side except for my band's gig last night, which is the first time in two weeks that i haven't taken it with me everywhere i go. the iPod is quite possibly one of the coolest inventions of our time. no, it's not a new technology, mp3 players have been around for quite some time, and plenty of people have them, but the iPod is definetly the most innovative. the interface is perfect, and easy to navigate the songs. the body is nothing short of beautiful, nice chrome on the back while the front's white fascia adds to it's gorgeousness. the color display is definetly an added bonus, especially now that those songs i purchased off the iTunes Music Store have album art, and i'm now able to enjoy one more factor about those songs i purchased digitally. i might add one more thing about the iTMS, it's just awesome. i decided there's no big difference between buying a cd off a shelf or a cd off the internet. price is almost always cheaper on the internet, quality is almost perfect and the ability to have exactly what i want when i want it is by far the best part about it. for instance, tonight i was just surfing through the music store and came across the band "The Autumns" and their self-titled debut album, which i must say is incredible. everyone that is into the band travis, or alternative or indie music in general needs to go out immediately and purchase this cd! it's nice to know there are stil awesome musicians out there.

speaking of music, earlier this week i got u2's "how to dismantle an atomic bomb" which is nothing short of INCREDIBLE. i'd go as far to say that it's the closest thing that they've ever gotten to "joshua tree." the cd speaks it's own language of guitar that i've never heard before in any other cd, and bono's singing is just the icing on the cake. i can't wait till they go on tour to support this cd, i'll try to make it to as many shows as humanly possible. also...there's one other cool thing that goes along w/ being a u2 fan and having an iPod. all next summer if you go see a u2 show and bring your iPod with you, you can download the show right to your iPod right after! now that is some sweet marketing!

ok, so music is cool, and so are tshirts, at least those from Threadless.com! threadless is an independant tshirt company where users submit artwork that they would like to see on a tshirt, and then the other users vote on those tshirts and say what they think is cool. from now till christmas, the tshirts are only $10 a shirt! i bought 4 the other day, and that's on top of the 4 i already had. the coolest thing about these shirts is hardly anybody has them! you don't have to worry about going out and someone wearing the exact same thing cuz some new shirt came out at abercrombie recently.

on a side note, i'm watching tv and a commercial for the new saab 9-2x just came on and WOW this thing looks sweet.

ok back to my thought...everyone needs to go to threadless and buy some shirts...oh yeah, and threadless gift certificates are great christmas presents too!

i had surgery last monday, and wow, that sucked. i've been down almost all week and doped up on vicodin to subdue the pain, yet it still sucks! but i've been able to get through it, even though i didn't have angie with me...

i got a nintendo ds, which is really sweet. two screens, touch control, and the hype is totally worth it. yeah, i definetly gave into the release date insaneness and got 5 of the 6 release games and the DS. yeah, it's totally worth it, but more about that later, it's seriously late and i need sleep! vicodin is awesome on a side note!

buy this cd:

Final Post

and i've moved...

http://indiekid03.textamerica.com

Public Service Announcement

Well, today's terribly boring, and I'm stooping as low as listening to the Jay-Z/Metallica Double Black album. Ok, so I lied again, so I'm not going to make any promises, but maybe I'll just start blogging more and more...hopefully. Anyway, the past few weeks have been eventful, and that's for sure.

A few weeks ago, the keyboard player in my band, Kevin Becker, had decided that it was his time to leave the band. This was a sad thing, of course, but it's also a turning point in our band, becuase it means that everyone that is with us right now is ready to focus and do some major work in getting to the bigtime.

Last Thursday, my brother and I drove down to St. Louis to go see O.A.R. and Dave Matthews Band at the UMB Bank Pavillion (commonly known as Riverport). We get there, and of course, we know the back way, so we got to bypass all the traffic that was ridiculous on I-270. Anyways, we get there and have to wait to buy the tickets from the guy that had saved a few lawn seats so that my brother and I could go to the show. We get in and O.A.R. has already played like 5 songs, so that's disappointing, but they closed with "Crazy Game of Poker" which is a mediocre song, however, the ENTIRE venue was singing this song at the top of their lungs. "I SAY O, YOU SAY AH, I SAY REVOLUTION." Yeah, all us Abercrombie sporting kids are gonna start a revolution...hmm...that's interesting.

DMB played 4 new songs, yeah, that's right, FOUR new songs. They were all great, titles include "Crazy/Easy", "Joyride", "Hello Again", and "Sugar Will". "Sugar Will" was by far my favorite, but most everyone else's was "Joyride. Needless to say, they were all amazing, and they'll be on the new DMB album to come out sometime soon.

Friday night some of my friends and I went to go see Brad Paisley at the Sangamon County Fair. This was an interesting show, not because I'd never gone to a country concert before, but mainly because my friends never really wanted to watch the show. We probably moved 6-7 times and I never got a good focus on the show. Regardless of whether or not I'm a Brad Paisley fan, I always like to actually WATCH the concerts I go to see. Well, so I ended up seeing probably 20-30 people that I knew there, including a ton of people that I haven't seen in years, so that was cool. Oh, and I saw two of my cousins, weird.

This week has been uneventful, except for the fact that I've begun booking my band's Summer 2004 tour, which is cool. We've gotten our first gigs booked in St. Joseph, Missouri and Warrensburg, Missouri. There will be 10 gigs in 11 days, which should be interesting to say the least.

Watched some more of the 1st season of 6 Feet Under too...i've only got 2 more episodes to go before the season's over, but we're in luck, because Chad just bought seasons 2+3 on DVD and we've got like close to 25 more episodes to go before we catch up with Season 4, which is on TV right now. If any of you out there haven't watched this show yet, stop what you're doing RIGHT NOW............I SAID RIGHT NOW, and go out and either purchase the 1st season, or rent it at your local video store. It's amazing...

Well, it's time to sign off, so I'll drop a line within the next few days...

Later...
Fish

Auf Achse

Ok, so going to see DMB tomorrow, but the tickets are definetly going to be $60...talk about highway robbery...but in any case, whatever...we're still gonna see them!

Catch Ya Later!

Roadhouse Blues

Hey guys...it's early in the morning, I'm soaked, and I wanted to drop a note. One thing, it's freaking pouring outside, and I'm definitely soaked to the bone, but anyway. Last night was alright, mainly stuff with mixing our damn CD and recording more of my bass parts for the songs that I still needed to finish up. So far the CD is turning out great, especially the song "Waste My Time" which I think will be the first song we actually release to radio stations...and we've got a bit of a connection with 97.7 WYVR, so hopefully it'll see some actual radio play. Thank god for WYVR being owned by Midwest Family Broadcasting and not Clear Channel. Fuck Clear Channel, I hate them. Anyways...it's just politics as usual. Any politics is good politics, but bad politics can hurt people. Ok, that was just rambling, not quite sure what I was meaning by that, but eh. Ok, so about the audioblogger thing....it's the coolest thing every, but it seems as though my phone service is acting up and I'm not able to audioblog from my mobile phone just yet...give it a few days, and I'll be posting like a fiend!

Later...
Matt

Testing, Testing...One Two

Audioblog...hells yeah

<img src="http://www.audioblogger.com/media/images/audioblogger.gif" class="audImg"border="0" alt="this is an audio post - click to play" />

Say That To My Face

Low carb Coke...what is the world coming to? Man, for a while there, I was pretty on the ball...I mean seriously, more than 1 post a day, but now it's kinda fallen back into my crappy I don't feel like posting mood. Well, to remedy that I decided to drop a note to all of those out there in blogville.

Past few weeks have been interesting. Got my new bass amp (Ampeg SVT-2Pro) which is absolutly amazing. Practiced a bit with a3 and have begun preparations for finishing the A3 cd. It's been a long and crazy journey, but we're finally getting ready to have our first actual cd done. Talk about being a bit late with it haha. I saw Harry Potter the other day, and it was amazing. This weekend I was gonna see Riddick, but those plans kinda fell through when we decided to watch Six Feet Under for like 3 hours last night instead. Let me say, that show is beyond cool. If you haven't seen it, go rent the DVDs NOW! Ok, well anyways...I'm going to go see DMB Thursday, which should be cool...OAR is also playing, and i've never seen them live, which will be an experience.

Alright, time to sign off...catch you all later...

Be sure to drop me a line - matt.galligan@gmail.com

Sending You A Note

I really want to see Harry Potter tonight. Yesterday seemed like it could be kinda boring, but then some more stuff got interesting. We confirmed our gig with Illinois College on September 17th where we will play with Cary Judd and The Infinity Room. On the 18th, Cary is setting us up a gig in Champaign-Urbana. That weekend will be amazing.

After seeing my friends in J.A.C.K. go away on tour, a bit of inspiration struck me yesterday in the idea that my band might be able to do a mini-tour by the end of the summer. Looks like it would start in Springfield, IL on July 31st, then the following places:

August 1st - St. Louis
August 2nd - Iowa
August 3rd - Iowa
August 4th - Minnesota
August 5th - Minnesota
August 6th - Wisconson
August 7th - Crowne Pointe, Indiana
August 8th - Chicago, Illinois
August 9th - Chicago, IL

If anybody knows of clubs or any sort of venue in these areas, please either email me at matt.galligan@gmail.com or put a comment on here!

Oh yeah, so we watched Euro Trip last night and it was freaking hilarious. I'm talking LOL hilarious. I think that I jumped out of my seat a good 13 1/2 times because I was laughing so hard! There was a lot of undermined humor in the movie, such as the little kid that dressed up like Hitler and walked around like a Nazi, wow....that was pure amazing filmmaking. :)

I'm anticipating Farenheit 911 and The Terminal a whole lot. For those of you who don't know what those are, those are movies coming out this summer. Farenheit 911 is Michael Moore's followup to Bowling For Columbine, which turned some heads in America and woke up the public about gun sales, violence in schools, and what the government is doing to prevent it. If you haven't seen Bowling for Columbine, I highly recommend going out and renting it today! Farenheit 911 is a movie about the 9.11.2001 tragedy and how the Bush administration has handled it. This film was deemed very controversial, and the company that had the rights to the film, Mirimax, was denied ability to release it from it's parent company, Disney, due to political issues. The movie was sold, and finally able to be released. This could be a major blow to the Bush campaign...and it's not like it wasn't coming anyway...Bush has already screwed up, and this movie will just make it apparent to all the Bush supporters. Some people will like it, some won't, but in the end, all of us will be more educated. As much as I hate what Michael Moore said at the film awards show he went to a few years ago, he is a brilliant man, and I just hope he continues to make more documentaries like this.

The Terminal, is Steven Spielberg's new movie about a business man that was travelling in the states, and in the meantime, his country had undergone a military Coup d'Etas, therefore, making his passport invalidated, and he had to stay in the Airport for the duration of the event. The man is played by Tom Hanks, who is an amazing and brilliant actor, and who to this day, changes with every single character he plays. I will be writing a full review for this film, as soon as I see it, which hopefully will be on release day...

Oh yeah, and I can't wait for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

To Hell We Ride

Oh yeah, and I forgot to tell you guys, i've got a new email address, and if you could, please update your address books and such to reflect such change. Had some fun with my band, bought some new crap, sold some old crap, and having a hell of a summer so far.

This weekend held a lot of fun and drama at the same time, but we'll only talk about the fun stuff. So my good friend Allie came to stay w/ me for a few days this weekend before she went on tour w/ another friend's band, J.A.C.K. She's really cool, doesn't really give a crap what a lot of people think and generally likes a lot of cool music. She came to hang out Friday and then came to my bands gig Saturday.

The show on Saturday at Club10 with Park was very cool. First off, Midnight Fall and The Lost opened up the show and then we went on about 9:30pm. We played a pretty cool set, and it was super fun, and then after I got off stage, i got an endorsement offer from Alien Alliance speaker cabinets, for my bass amplification, which was really cool. And I just may take up the offer...

Sunday went up to visit Allie's "dad" and grandma in Bloomington, IL and then just kinda chilled and came home.

Monday we went to visit her other grandmother in Lincoln, IL and I also met two of her cousins. Which in fact was really cool, cuz her cousin Amanda is pretty hot... Later on we went to go hang out with the J.A.C.K. guys and help them along before their tour and I got to sit in and jam on one song. I also sold my old bass amp to Max so that they have a better bass amp for the tour and for later on. It was sad to see it go, but i'm moving on to bigger and better things in the world of bass amplification so everything's not lost...

later kidz
-Matt

More Music

Hey guys...just thought i'd drop a little note. I bought a ton of tunes from iTunes tonight...well, really just 20 songs...a lot of cool stuff, a lot of old stuff. Highlights include Finch's "Letters to You", Story of the Year's "Anthem of our Dying Day", The Rembrants "I'll Be There For You", and of course, Haddaway's "What is Love?".

Well I did nothing tonight, seriously nothing. Eeveryone was gone tonight, which sucked, so thus, I stayed at home and did random work. I really should have made my bed lol, or at least just straightened up my room or something, but no, i'm retarted and just sit around and do absolutly nothing. Oh yeah, and Allie conviced me to stay up late again, even though i'm sitting here and i'm really tired. I'm on another Mars Volta stint. So in closing, i end with the lyrics to the song i'm listening to right now dedicated to a certain unnamed person.

"Can't you see that i wanna be there with open arms
It's empty tonight and i'm all alone
Get me through this one

Do you notice i'm gone?
Where do you run to so far away?

I want you to know that I miss you I miss you so
I want you to know that I miss you I miss you so

I'm writing again these letters to you aren't much, I know
But i'm not sleeping and you're not here
The thought stops my heart

Do you notice i'm gone?
Where do you run to so far away?

I want you to know that I miss you I miss you so [x4]

No more looking i've found home

I want you to know that I miss you I miss you so [x4]

I'm gone away
I'm gone away"

Finch
"Letters to You"

Please, leave comments, noone Just wearing boxers doesn't even cut it, however, I don't go further than that haha.

On a happy note: I talked to Melissa a bit yesterday, and that made me happy, oh yeah, and Allie shows up tomorrow!

Later kidz

Really Deep Under

So yeah, if you ever have a chance to get or rent the entire first season of the HBO Series, "Six Feet Under" I highly recommend it. Chad, Liz and I watched episode 1 tonight, and let me say, it's one of the best shows on tv. Creepy, funny and insane all at the same time, makes for some interesting television, let me tell you.

I've also come to the conclusion that White Oaks Mall sucks and that it should burn down...well not really...it's just really boring sometimes, and you gotta spice shit up like, walk to one side, then the other, and then back to where you came from, just to make shit interesting. They had the new Richard Cheese CD in Hot Topic tonight and you could listen to it. For those of you who don't know who Richard Cheese is, he's a lounge singer that covers popular music of the time, and this is his second cd effort. He sings "Milkshake" in a lounge singer type dealy...nuff said.

Later Kidz

Listening To:

Modest Mouse
Good News For People Who Love Bad News
"Float On"

Mondays

Wow, Mondays really suck, especially the ones where you don't go to work, study for finals, and have absolutly nothing else to do. Friday, I got to hang out with my old friends from high school, Cody, Adam and Josh in no particular order. We went to Mowie's Cue, which is a big smokey pool hall in Springfield, but before that we hit up the Taco Bell, which made it's big return to this sad town we call Springfield a few weeks ago. We all kinda chilled at Mowie's, played some pool, oh, and watched this girl and guy getting really pissed at each other then really going at it outside and being all up in thier faces and everything, it was great!

Saturday I woke up kinda early, just to call this girl i've been talking to for a few weeks now, Melissa, who I must say is great! We were supposed to go to Bloomington and go on a date and everything, but since her car is very ghetto (not in the good way) and her mom decided at the last minute she couldn't have her car, plans fell through. But I was pretty determined to go see Melissa, seens as it'd be our first real date and stuff, so I got my shower, got dressed and trekked it up to South Wilmington, Illinois, which is really only like an hour and a half north of me. I expected the trip to be much longer than it really was, but it was a nice little drive and of course, the ending made it even better. I got to her exit and I was getting pretty nervous, cuz I mean, i had talked to her a lot (3 hours a night on the phone), it's just this was our first time to be in person. For those of you still wondering how I met her, it was through a mutual friend, Ashley. Well I show up to see the most beautiful girl i'd ever seen in my life just kinda in her pajamas and getting ready for the day, no makeup, hair half-done, and yet, still gorgeous.

We sat around for a while, just kinda talked, yet, no awkward silence, she did the rest of her hair, put on her "face" (makeup for those of you who can't figure it out) and then we waited for her mom to get home. We took her mom's car to go to dinner at this little restaurant a little ways away and had a pretty good dinner together. We went back to her place after that and watched some tv and just kinda held each other for a while, it was a great night, and to end it off, I got the best kiss i'd ever had in my life, so needless to say I was a happy guy, as i made the trip back home.

Today was mothers day, not very exciting, told my mom happy mothers day and we went to my grandma Carter's for a really good dinner and just kinda hanging out. Rode bikes with my little cousin Todd, which was an interesting experience considering I hadn't ridden a bike in close to 3 or 4 years now. I went to Chad's afterwards and we went on a drive throughout Springfield, like we do on occasion. Checked out the car dealerships and some sweet new cars (Pontiac's GTO and Scion's xA), grabbed a shake from Sonic and talked about the women in our lives.

Great weekend kids, looking forward to this week: My friend Allie comes back to Springfield Wednesday, so that will be fun, and maybe I can make the trip up to see Melissa again this weekend, both of which would make my week!

New Blog, New Life, and etc.

Hey guys, i'm making my triumphant return to the world of blogging in this here blogspot.
